Noboborsho

Each year BABA holds a Spring festival of music, dancer, cuisine and art in Bloomsburg's wonderful Town Park. Over the past 5 years the event has grown to one of the community's most anticipated events, bringing artists from New York together with local Bengal and western performers.

Noboborsho is an annual celebration of Bengali culture and ethnic diversity that includes music, poetry, multimedia presentation, cuisine and dance. Noboborsho provides an opportunity for intercultural exploration for local residents. The event is held to commemorate Noboborsho, the Bengali New Year on April 14, but the event is sometimes moved to May in order to accommodate artist schedules. Bengali New Year Festival of Song, Music, Dance and Food. Classical and folk dances... Songs, music and drums performed by local & professional guest artists. In the past, artists have included Tapan Modak (one of the most renowned tabla players in New York), Dulal Bhowmik (distinguished folk singer of Bangladesh now living in the area), as well as Nandini Sengupta, a local harmonium player and Bengali vocalist. In the area of dance, past performers have included Sunita Iqbal from Udichi School of Performing Arts, NYC and Anne Fevdous, director of Bangladesh Institute of Performing arts, NYC. Other local acts include Bloomsburg to Bangladesh and George Chamuris. Please note this is an all ages, alcohol-free event.

For several years, this project has been supported by the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA), the regional funding partnership of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency. State government funding comes through an annual appropriation by Pennsylvania’s General Assembly and from National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. PPA is administered in this region by the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance (PRAA)
